I(17F) am a Taiwanese high school student in Australia and have just been in high school here for less than 1 year.

I have met a group of people(ABC) in my school. They all look sweet and nice, and treat me friendly. I hope I can get closer to them, and join their conversation, etc.
However, my English skills are not pretty well. They are all native speakers and don't understand Mandarin. For me, their speech are too fast for me. Also, many words they use are kind too hard to understand too. They don't really take the speech slower and use simple words when they talk to me.

I am wondering if should I tell them to speak slowly and simply to me? Will this make others feel that anything bad about me? Is there anything I should notice about?

(I am not a native speaker, please ignore all the grammar errors that I made. Thank you.)
