[Not criticizing, I’m really curious] In Latin America and Europe, most of us speak two or more languages.
Most Americans I know speak only English and I have the impression that they have no interest in learning other languages.
Am I right? If so, why?
[Edit] I admit that my question was based on a generalization and that the way I phrased it may have been rude, and I apologize for that. I never wanted to offend anyone.
After more than 70 replies, I realize that most of you think that you don't need to learn other languages because the whole world speaks English. This shows a point of view based on "consumerism" and, why not, on the capitalist dynamic that everything should have a practical value and "serve a purpose". I don't share this opinion, and I believe that learning a foreign language is a great opportunity to learn about other cultures and ways of thinking. It can also become a hobby.
Thanks to everyone who replied, some of the comments were quite interesting and helped me to understand other nuances of the issue.
