I'm interacting with strangers for long periods of time and I run through my small talk so quickly and can't think of anything else to say. Sometimes I just warn people I'm quiet before we start but i feel bad sitting in silence for 5 hours. I wanna have better interactions with clients so they like coming to me but im totally lost. My usual small talk questions are pretty much limited to: hows your day going? Any weekend plans? Doing anything fun this summer? School? Work? Hobbies? Pets? Did you know this random fun fact? I really struggle to keep the conversation going unless we have something in common and I have something to contribute. But usually the conversation fizzles after a few sentences. How do I keep conversations going longer? Are there any other ways I could start more engaging conversations? I am pretty socially inept until I get comfortable with people so this part of the job is really difficult for me. Any advice would be appreciated!
