I was walking home at about 11pm when a homeless person comes up to me and asks 'I don't want any money, but can you buy me a toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo from that Nisa over there'.

I thought yea ok, put yourself in their shoes etc etc.

We go into the Nisa, he walks straight to the back, picks out a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and deodorant. He goes to the counter, hands over the items – the 4 items come to over £20.

At this point, I'm thinking um wtf, this is almost the same as my weekly grocery shop. The shampoo and stuff I buy is normally £1 no name bottom shelf brands from Asda, so I would have expected the lot to be no more than £8. I pay because he's already started walking towards the door.

When we walk out he asks, do you also have any spare change? I said 'dude I just spent £20' and felt taken advantage of instead of glad that I helped out a homeless person.

Is this some sort of scam? or am I just butthurt that I blew almost week's grocery budget on 4 toiletries?
