Do people socialize during university lectures?

I was just wondering, during a college or university lecture, is it important to socialize by talking to people I don't know in lectures since lectures are just listening to the lecturer talk and teach and then everyone leaves without worrying about anyone else besides their friends. So I want to know if anyone here even talks to anyone during uni or college lectures?
