How to meet/get to know girls in high school?

Hi! I'm going into my sophomore year of high school and need some help. For most of my life I've been kinda shy and scared to talk to people, especially girls. Last year I finally found some friends (all guys) that I really enjoy being around and are genuine friends. However, I would also like to know how to meet and get to know girls. I realize it's probably similar to getting to know guys, but the only reason I met my friends that I have now is because a friend I've had since elementary school introduced me to them. I appreciate any advice you have, thanks!
