I am well aware that many Irish people immigrated to the USA in the 1800s. Many people despised them and set up signs saying “ No Irish need apply.”

When JFK was elected president in 1960 it was seen as a great victory for Irish catholic Americans.

At what point did being Irish or even Irish Catholic stop being a liability or barrier for inclusion, acceptance and decent employment?
