Me 22f and my boyfriend 23m met in college and we each had our own apartment so we spent a lot of time together. He graduated a year before me and continued to live at his mom's house. So he has been living with his mom for a year now after graduation. He makes decent money and has been wanting to move out of his mom's place so he has been looking for apartments nearby. Since I have moved in with my parents now and I consider myself a super independent person, I thought that I would either need to find a place or even move in with him, since all my friends are pretty much living with their significant others now. However, I brought up the idea to him and I was a little upset when he told me that he wants to live by himself completely for a while then maybe in a couple years we can move in together. I understand his opinion and respect it but it kinda hurt my feelings a little bit because I thought a relationship for almost 3 years would be enough for him to feel comfortable living with me but I guess not? I mean, all my friends in relationships live together. I'm definitely trying to not take it personally but I guess he really needs his alone time because he has never lived alone before.
TL;DR- All my friends who are in relationships now live together regardless of how long they have been together but my boyfriend says he needs to live alone first.
