How should I start conversations in my situation?

im in 8th grade, so it’s hard to talk about weather and current events, I also don’t know a lot of people, and they always see me as the quiet kid (which im trying to change). Everyone is always in groups too, either 2 or more so it’ll be hard to just butt in with something like asking for help on an assignment.
