I've watched a couple cop shows set in the UK. Whenever the police are describing an Arab suspect, they say that the suspect is Asian. Do cops in the UK really do that? How do they describe someone from China?
Edit: I think I understand now. In the UK "Asian" usually refers to South Asian, and to refer to an Asian not from South Asia, one would need to specify. The source of my surprise is that in the US "Asian" usually refers to East Asian, and to refer to an Asian not from East Asia, one would need to specify. Now I know about IC codes that the police actually use when being more specific about a suspect's appearance. Thanks for the explanation!
