Most people in my country (59%) have a second home (summer cottage/vacation home) of some kind that they go to during holidays.

Since the US is a very rich country with large swathes on undeveloped land I would assume that having a vacation property in the country-side of would be even more common. However, I read somewhere on Reddit that most Americans only have one house that they stay in all year round.

Do you own a vacation cottage of some kind? Is this true that most Americans don't? If so, why do you think Americans are less likely to own a second home?
