This might be stupid but I can’t find the country subreddit for USA. Found r/USA and r/America but they don’t have as many members as I would expect. Am I missing something?

  1. Reddit itself is usually by default American, so there’s no need for an “American” sub. Of course there’s a few, but the reason they aren’t as widespread as say the numerous European subs or as populated is simply because we make up a majority of Reddit.

  2. >I can’t find the country subreddit for USA.

It’s a happy accident that you found this sub, because we’re it.

  3. There is r/unitedstates but the sub is set to private, and r/bordercontrol doesn’t appear to be active.

  4. This is honestly as close as you’re gonna get. r/murica is mostly a satire sub and almost every other American sub isn’t very well populated. We’re just so numerous on the site that a dedicated American sub is pretty unnecessary.

  5. This is a good place of you have questions for Americans. If you want to share something that isn’t a question, just find a subreddit on that topic. American politics dominates r/politics, American music dominates r/music, American tiktoks dominate r/tiktokcringe, American personal finance advice dominates r/personalfinance, and so on.

It’s like those German lads from Rammstein sung it: “We’re all living in America. Coca Cola, Wonderbar.”

  6. As others have pointed out, Reddit itself has a heavy USA lean, and a lot of people still assume that anyone they’re responding to is an American.

As far as subreddits that try to give a view specifically about the USA in general, we’re probably the most active. Used to have more “competition” in previous years, but this place has exploded. (40x more users than 5 years ago).

  7. There’s an off topic version of this sub but it’s not very active and I always forget the name.
Will edit this if I remember but hoping someone else replies with it.
Edit: /r/americafireside it’s even in the sidebar

  8. Sadly /r/America was created by some British dudes who thought it would be funny to squat on the name. I messaged one of the mods like 5 years ago to see if they would relinquish it so Americans could actually use it.

He told me to fuck off lol

  9. We’re a very large country. You’ll find better interactions in local state, region, or city subreddits.

  10. That’s kinda like having White History Month. All of reddit is America-centric, there’s no need for a special space where we all understand each other.

  11. Something like half of Reddit is American, to the point where they had to make /r/worldnews thanks to /r/news being so America-centric.

Alternatively: You’d best start believing in American subreddits, OP – you’re in one.

  12. I feel like the US is the default Internet country. I would try looking for one specific to your state if you’re into that.

  13. There are subreddits for each state, and some major cities (not sure if every single one is active though)

For example, /r/newyorkcity, /r/nyc, /r/newjersey, /r/Minnesota, and so on. So, to answer your question, yes, but it’s balkanized.
