If asked ‘what is an ideal relationship to you?’ Do you have a hard time coming up with an answer?

So a little background, I (34F) dated someone (47M) for a few months and noticed that he had one foot in and one foot out of the relationship. I asked him what does an ideal relationship look like / consist of for you? He got upset about the question telling me this is impossible to answer. I told him that I didn’t want to hear what he thought I wanted to hear but that I genuinely was curious about his perspective. Do guys in general have a hard time answering that?
