I suffer from severe insomnia, and I’m on sleeping medication for it. I have a very strict bedtime routine. I go to bed around midnight each night (sometimes later due to insomnia)and typically wake up around seven to 7:30 AM which I think is a reasonable time to wake up.

My boyfriend is insistent on getting to work at the crack of dawn before everybody else. It’s something that he’s instilled upon himself. He gets up at 5 AM every day to be at work by six. We just moved in together about a month ago. The apartment is beautiful and we both love it, it’s in a great location and we have a huge yard. However, he is not able to be quiet in the morning and has woken me up every day. I am absolutely miserable. He wakes up by the door, creaking every morning and slamming and shutting cabinets and doors. I’ve told him time and time again he’s been waking me up and he’s insist that he’s trying to be quiet, but it feels like he’s Low-key jealous about the fact that I am able to get up later than him.

I worry that if I use earplugs, I won’t be able to wake up to my alarm. It’s driving me absolutely crazy when he’s getting ready in the morning it wakes my dog up too that is used to getting up at seven. I don’t know what to do other than tell him this isn’t going to work but I know that seems extreme. I have just barely gotten sleep Monday through Friday the past month now and I’m at my wits end. I feel like I’ve told him this several times, but he doesn’t seem to care. He tells me he’s trying to be quiet, but somehow I managed to not wake him up when I’m going to bed every night he manages to wake me and my dog up every single morning. What can I do?

TLDR : My boyfriend who might just move in with continuously wakes me up at 5 AM when he leaves for work?
