I did all the things he wouldn’t let me. I now have a Master’s degree (I had no degrees previously).
I spent 2 years working on me and then when on dating sites and met my husband.
I will say I had a restraining order that over 10 years later, he still breaks, so sometimes we have to accept they will do lots to try and unsettle us.
A lot of therapy… weekly for years. Setting boundaries and/or ending friendships and ties to other people who were toxic and energy-draining to me. Learning to spend time on my own.
A really good support system and therapy was crucial to getting out and moving on.
