Europe and lack of locks?

I’ve been to four different European countries this year, and every single place I stayed at, there were no locks for the bathrooms! This blew my mind cuz every time I went somewhere, it was the same. I stayed at two hotels at the end of my last trip, and both of them didn’t even have fucking doors. What is it with Europeans and their lack of wanting privacy? Please help me understand. Thanx
