I was recently talking to a friend because there has always been something in mind. I'm usually the type of person who opens up fairly quickly. By "open up" I don't mean trauma dump on people who I barely know, more like have no trouble talking about personal things when asked.

For example, let's say someone is having an issue with another friend or something. If someone who I'm acquainted with but not super close with asks, I usually have no problem telling them. However, I've realized they the opposite is rarely reciprocated.

I was talking to my friend about why that is after noticing that there are people who I would know for years who still keep "secrets" around me but at the same time have no problem opening up to friends they've only known for a few months.

My friend says that maybe it's because we "just don't click," but then I'm also wondering what that means. He also told me that sometimes I may come off as disingenuous but I've never tried to pretend to be someone I'm not or took people for granted. I might sometimes be a bit awkward, but obviously not on purpose. I've also been thinking maybe I'm "too friendly" (If that's a thing)?

At the same time, there have also been cases where it felt like that with someone, but they slowly opened up after time. Maybe it's different from person to person?

Do you guys have any thoughts on this? Why might some people always keep a distance with me?
