I want to preface this by saying I mostly want to get this off my chest and I'm not sure if there's any advice I can take as we hardly interact with her anyway. But I can't be the only one weirded out by this.
My (21M) bf (19M) went to my best friend's (20F) birthday today. Keep in mind my bf and I have been together for a year and this is maybe the 3rd or 4th time he's interacted with her mom. Never for an extended period of time and never without me present.
My friend's mom (~60?F) is kinda weird to begin with. It might have something to do with her being bipolar.
On Halloween the three of us went out, and my bf and I stepped in for a bit when we picked my friend up from her house. Her mom was there, and within the first few minutes my bf crouched down to pet their dog and my friend's mom leaned over him and started petting his hair. He has long curly hair that goes past his shoulders, like 3b for reference.
During and after he brushed it off by laughing and said it was a "natural reaction", but it came up recently and he admitted he did find it weird. I don't think he would've tolerated it in a different situation.
Which leads to tonight. So, in the midst of the party this ~60 yo woman loudly exclaims to her roommate (another older woman) "I have a crush on [my bf's name]". It was hard to hear some of it due to all the talking but she said it was because he's so nice and said something about "if I was younger…". So yeah.
This immediately made me, my friend, and my bf look at each other. He made a face like "this is weird/uncomfortable". neither of us verbalized it but my friend did, like the first time when she straight up said "No, that's weird" (which didn't stop her mom from petting him unfortunately).
I'm just like… how do you even respond to that ðŸ˜
I know some people are going to comment that it's just a thing with older generations, but that doesn't necessarily make it okay. And on a deeper level… she related his personality to having a crush on him which honestly weirds me out more than if it was just his looks, and straight up pet him like a dog. All three of us (but mainly him) are uncomfortable with this. It's just a weird situation to be in.
TL;DR My best friend's mom pet my bf and said she has a crush on him, it's really awkward and idk what to do other than not go to her house anymore.
