how are people actually able to make friends with people who dont share interests, or even talk without talking about an intererest?

i just, dont get it, whenever i try and engage in a conversation without using interests as a talking point, i lose the conversation quickly and try and dip out, and also how can people even try and talk to people with no indication there is a shared interest, it just seems too fucking risky, i also just dont understand how people can naturally assuming strangers interacting with them have good intentions it just seems too risky and stupid
