my bf 23M and i 23F are having an issue, is it time to quit it?

me F23 and my boyfriend M23 have been in a relationship for almost 3 years now . and while it hasn’t been the most perfect relationship, i’d say i’ve grown very attached to him. last night while on a call i said to him excitedly that my birthday is coming up soon, he then gives a very annoyed “ugh” i then feel like i might’ve misunderstood so i ask him what he said, he immediately gets mad at me and hangs up. next morning he tells me he’s really annoyed at me for giving bad energy. i then try to talk to him and ask him to explain and communicate, to which he mostly leaves me on read or sends the occasional 1-2 word replies and says he no longer understands me. after sending a couple of texts that were left on read, i stopped contacting him and we haven’t spoken in a few hours. what do you think i should do?
