I have been reading about the religion of Ancient Rome when time and energy permits, and those guys did quite a bit of animal sacrificing back in the day. This kinda got me thinking:

Would it be legal to slaughter animals in a religious context within the EU, assuming the religion is legally recognized?

On the one hand, you could argue no, because we have laws against animal cruelty, but on the other hand, we have factory farming, and religiously motivated infant genital mutilation is also legal.

So yeah, would our poor time-lost roman go to jail if they sacrificed an ox or a goat or a dog or whatever to one of their gods to ask them to help make them sense of their situation?
