I sent my ex a message this morning trying to be friendly. This is someone I miss dearly and think about FAR too often. I admit my own weakness for this situation. We are former work colleagues and I had heard he got a new job. We were both made redundant a few months ago, which caused a lot of stress and we hadn't spoken since.
My message: 'I hope you don't mind me getting in touch but I just wanted to say well done on the new job. I'm very happy for you and i'm glad things seem to be going well and I hope you enjoy the new challenge.'
He replied a few hours later with a polite/vaguely friendly message saying 'Hi, i'm glad to get your message. It has been difficult few months being unemployed but things are turning a corner. I'm managing myself as best as I can and it's been a difficult and emotional time. I hope you are well too. It's been a tough time for both of us.'
I am glad he replied but I don't think his reply leaves a door open?
