What are some legitimate ways to make money every day of the week using your laptop?

I recently became a single father of one because my wife left us. I work from 9 to 5, but I need another way to make a quick buck. Some friends suggested looking into stocks, but I'm not sure where to start or if it’s the right option. What would you recommend?
