when do i follow up?

so i was doing my some work, a guy came in and i asked him for help. we ended up talking for a while after that and i enjoyed his company. we exchanged numbers but i dont know when to text him or if i should even text in the first place because what if he doesn’t want to be friends. advice please 😭
