Kamusta! I’m new to this server and I wanted to say hello! I do have a question, which states in America has a strong Filipino influence?

  1. Welcome!

The state with the largest concentration of Filipino people (and, so, influence) is California, followed by Hawai’i, Texas, and Washington.

  2. Hawaii by far. California second place. But Filipinos are pretty much everywhere.

  3. HI, CA, NYC are the ones I know of. I think NYC had the first Philippine Independence Day parade in the US. Kind of crazy to have an Independence Day in the US for independence from the US.

There’s a really big connection with nursing as well. The nursing schools in the Philippines teach in English and back when the Philippines were a territory they sent a lot of nurses stateside. That tradition has continued.

Overall there isn’t a huge influence. Not like Latino culture or European culture. But in specific areas there is.

  4. Virginia is one that you can definitely find Filipino communities!

DC actually is seeing a bit of a bloom in Filipino food scenes! With 2 Jollibees and a ton of other places like Bad Saint or Purple Patch.

Norfolk too thanks to the world’s largest naval base shouldn’t be shocking.

  5. California, Hawaii, Nevada is becoming a big one, Alaska (yes really)

  6. In my experience, Hawaii and California. Hawaii especially.

Filipinos live all over, but they have a strong cultural presence in both of those states. The Filipino communities in those places have been around for a hundred years.

  7. I will say in my experience military bases normally have a good community of Filipinos for their size and population. That’s how my grandmother came to America and I have lived on them my entire life. Chicago also had a sizable community when I visited. Other than that California and Hawaii have been mentioned already.

  8. Growing up in San Diego I had a very good Filipino friend, ate at many different Filipino restaurants and saw a striking number of Filipinos in the Navy. My dad was in the Navy so I was frequently on ships and on bases.
