I’m about to finish my study abroad year and I have always found it difficult to maintain conversations through texts because I don’t really know what to say other than ‘how are you doing?’ and it eventually becomes repetitive. This hasn’t been a problem back at home because I usually see my friends often and if I haven’t seen them for a while, I’ll always have something to talk about.

So, I understand that my relationship with my new friends won’t be the same as before, but any tips on keeping in touch?

  1. I try to keep their work schedule in mind when I reach out, otherwise one of us will forget to respond. I also call or video chat every few weeks to actually catch up, more than just a text check in.
