I just heard ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’ for the first time in quite a while… that is a great song!
Uhhhhh
The wreck of the Edmond Fistgwrald? There isn’t many to choose from.
Poor Idaho probably has nothing
Probably Sufjan Stevens song “Chicago”.
California Love by Tupac and Dr. Dre.
**San Francisco**: I Left My Heart In San Francisco by Tony Bennett

**Chicago**: Lake Shore Drive by Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah

Georgia on my mind!
There aren’t many songs with Louisiana in the title because, well, what is there to sing about? ~~However, I like [Louisiana Rain](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F6y4-Rtf0W0) by Tom Petty.~~
Don’t Stop Believin by Journey is a staple in Detroit.
When songs about Iowa comes up, *Stranded in Iowa* by Manfred Mann is the one that immediately comes to mind for me, It’s ok.
If I want to name a song that I really like, it would have to be *I’ve Been Everywhere* by Johnny Cash. Who doesn’t love the Man in Black? The cities he names are : Spirit Lake, Davenport, Waterloo and Sioux City. Those are probably not unique town names, but those are definitely Iowa towns 🙂
If we count fictional towns, I could add *Ya Got Trouble* from the Music Man. We got trouble right here in River City. Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stand for pool!
Come on, it’s a fun song.
Carolina In My Mind by James Taylor is a classic.
Also, Sweet Caroline at Panthers games. (Fuck you, Boston, we did it first!)
Willie Nelson has an [entire album](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_in_My_Soul) dedicated to Texas
Other honorable submission:
Texas Flood – SRV
London Homesick Blues – Jerry Jeff Walker (Viva Terlingua is a bomb album 👍👍👍)
Better In Texas – Rick Trevino (Raul Malo has a better cover imo)
Edit: More submissions
Beer For My Horses – Toby Keith
La Grange – ZZ Top

Detroit Rock City by Kiss
It’s hard to choose between the songs about the [Kent State massacre](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9INnMMwvnk), our [disgraced beauty queen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8aH4cRdplE), one of our [polluted rivers catching fire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVNuT4fkjAs), the [strip malls taking over](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thu8DWsirJo), or our [big butter Jesus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWF8_rZnwLA&t=106s) (RIP).
I’m going to just go with [The Stable Song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGDjO9kuKyY) by Gregory Alan Isakov. Okay, it’s not necessarily about Ohio, but it refers to the Ohio river, and it reminds me of summer nights in the more beautiful parts of the state.
George Strait’s “Amarillo by Morning” is a classic. Love that song!
https://youtu.be/HnGn3xOGUDU
This may be the only song, Massachusetts is a little bit of a mouthful!
Virginia Moon by the Foo Fighters. Not their usual type of song. Somewhere between a ballad and a slow Bossa nova. David Grohl is from Virginia.
I’m not a North Carolinian and I know it’s mainly for them but Petey Pablo’s – Raise Up gets me amped for the Carolinas.
Growing up in the LaGrange from the ZZ Top song was pretty cool. Not many people knew our small town, but they knew the song. It was great having them play the song in LaGrange for the first time a few years ago before Dusty Hill died.
Oklahoma by Rogers and Hammerstein. https://youtu.be/kGXu0j6QDJ8
Headin down south to the Land of the Pines
Thumbin my way into North Caroline.
Staring at the road, and pray to God I see headlights.
[Georgia On My Mind](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRgWBN8yt_E) is of course a favorite. Perfect state song, I won’t hear any different.
[Midnight Train to Georgia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwbmufPphP0) as well.
[Welcome to Atlanta](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1F0AnpzeTw) ought to be the city’s anthem, if we had one, although [ATLiens](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktc9hsSfUck) would be a close second.
Some lesser known ones: [Georgia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kH_EZF0XqM) from Ludacris and Field Mob.
[Georgia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGX_1gL2PPA) by Cee Lo Green
[Georgia Rhythm](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XqDVBBVX4I) by the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Just nice to put on during an evening drive.
Steely Dan’s : My Old School mentions William and Mary.
Cowboy Junkies’ : Southern Rain is about where I live. Richmond, Va
Ain’t none of y’all have said [The Devil Went Down to Georgia ](https://youtu.be/sh7BZf7D5Bw) for GA and thus you are wrong
Get Your Kicks on Route 66. It’s an old one, but it names lots of towns and a few states, including mine.
Omaha by Counting Crows
THEY BLEW UP THE CHICKEN MAN IN PHILLY LAST NIGHT. THEY BLEW UP HIS HOUSE TOO
Carolina in my Mind is about North Carolina but James Taylor only refers to it as Carolina so I’ll say that one.
Carolina Girls by General Johnson
Motown Philly!! It’s impossible not to smile when that song’s playing.
Sufjan Stevens has an entire album called “Michigan,” which has beautiful songs about various areas of the state. It’s my go-to road trip album when going on in-state road trips.
Milk Carton Kids also have a lovely song called, “Michigan.”
Home on the Range comes to mind, it’s the Kansas state song, and makes me think of standing out front of a house in West Kansas and looking out across the plains.
The first couple times I heard 7 Nation Army by The White Stripes, I got a kick out of the line “I’m going to Wichita”. I was probably 14 and couldn’t believe they were talking about Wichita.
OREGON
Since I haven’t seen Oregon here, I’ll throw out two examples
Woody Guthrie’s “Pastures of Plenty” talks about farm workers following work “and it’s north up to Oregon, to gather your hops”

The Grateful Dead’s “Pride of Cucamonga” has a line “Since I came down from Oregon, there’s a lesson or two I’ve learned”. Earlier in the song he references “Muskrat Flats” which isn’t a real place in Oregon, but people analyzing the tune believe it to be Klamath Falls
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFSnOZy955U](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFSnOZy955U)

Then there’s the avant-jazz / neo-classical group simply called “Oregon” Here’s a tune they do called Ecotopia

[Welcome to California](https://youtu.be/lWJEDLaW0RY?t=48) by the Surf Punks. It’s pretty obscure but it just underlines a particular time in my life that I cherish.
I like *New York, New York*.
But I don’t like *New York*
*New York City* is pretty good.
But *New York* sucks.
It’s got to be California Uber Alles by the Dead Kennedys.
Devil Went Down to Georgia. Song is dope even if a fiddle made of gold would sound like pure trash.
