I’ve been with this girl for almost a year now, she had insecurities when we met because her ex was a manipulative ass who always brought her down and made her feel like she isn’t worth loving. I thought that by showing her constantly how much I love and appreciate her that she would feel less insecure over time. She hasn’t and it is really driving me away, she can’t take criticism without getting upset even though 99% of the time I compliment her. I mean all the compliments I give her, but obviously sometimes things need to be criticized. I do not want to break up with her, because I honestly love her so much, so what should I do?

tl;dr: girlfriend insecure after 1 year of relationship, what can I do to help her?

  1. There is nothing that you can do to fix her. You can be the most kind and empathetic boyfriend in the world and she will still be insecure.

She needs to do the work herself. The only thing you can do is be honest. It’s hard especially since it sounds like you are walking on eggshells, but eventually this will get to you.

Have a talk on how this is affecting the relationship. Tell her she needs to see her value and appreciate herself.
