Serious question. I’m a bit tired of wearing jeans now but don’t want to ‘dress up’ in chinos and feel a bit too casual in tracksuit pants.

What’s your alternative?

  1. I just don’t care. Cookie monster, goku, and plaid-patterned pajama bottoms. Otherwise, gray sweatpants with no underwear is the best.

  2. corduroy pants are a nice look but they get hot in the summer. honestly most chino’s are not formal dress-wear, you wont look overdressed in a good pair. avoid brands like Chaps and what not, you dont want to look like youre going to church. and wear something casual with them. t shirt, hoodie, a cool button down. not a dress shirt but a good button down. very easy to dress down some chinos. i recommend banana republic, they make really good chinos for solid prices. all of mine have lasted over 3-4 years

edit: throw some color variation in there too. they dont have to be khaki. a pair of brown or olive chino’s will really add to your wardrobe

  3. There are chinos that are cut like jeans, without them fancy slash pockets. If you’re into Levi’s stuff, look for cotton twill 511s. I’m into those.

  4. Plain old dickies work pants. Been wearing them for the last 20 years to the point jeans just feel weird to me now. They also make them in many styles if you’re into baggier or more tapered look.

  5. I just came in here to ask when did Chinos become dressing up? I must have missed the memo. 😂

  6. We need to change this conversation. If we’re only talking about khaki’s, jeans, and cargo pants, we’re having a conversation in a JC Penney’s in 1998.

It’s 2022. You can get joggers/athleisure pants that look professional enough to wear in most ordinary office/work environments or as a student, while also being absurdly comfortable and also tapered and stylish. That’s where it’s at imo.

  7. If you have the budget, something from Outlier. They make performance clothes that look sharp but feel very comfortable.

  8. Duluth firehouse cargos are my go to, can work in em and can relax in em. Not formal wear tho

  9. If you can stay away from Saudi Arabia, you could try wearing shorts. Basically loved worldwide except in SA, you will be scolded painfully by law enforcement.

  10. I stocked up on a brand of pants called Inflation from Amazon a few years ago. They fit slim, come in different colors, and just look good with everything. They don’t seem to be available on there anymore (like every other good product I find) but they’re awesome. And not expensive.

  11. Work pants from Dickies (or anywhere else) are great. Better colors and cleaner looking than jeans.

  12. Try out the 5.11 Taclite pants. Mainly wear them for EMS work, but I have several pair for my regular job as well. Lightweight, look dressy enough for meetings, ripstop fabric.

  13. Chinos can be casual, it’s all about what you wear with them. But I get what you’re saying too. I recently bought a pair of Vuori ripstop pants that are great. Maybe check out Lululemon too. Have kinda chino like pants but are more athletic.

  14. Try Kuhl company. I recently converted from 45 years of wearing jeans and I’ve never felt so free!

  15. I buy hiking/fly fishing pants. Lots of pockets, breathable, comfortable and they usually last long. I wear FRs to work but anytime I’m outside work it’s shorts or hiking pants.

  16. I own two types of trousers.

    Black jeans and Gray sweats.

Don’t think I’ll ever get any other type.

  17. I started wearing Lululemon pants and haven’t looked back ever since. They’re presentable and so much more comfy…

  18. I just bought my husband 4 pairs of cargo pants that are slim fit at the ankle. He was also getting tired of jeans. They fit nice and he likes them. Marks has all different colours and sizes (might be Canadian)

  19. Patagonia make some pants/jeans that fall in somewhere between jeans and chinos. I believe a few other companies make something similar.
