Dodgers @ Rockies. Playoffs are on the line, and it’s the bottom of the ninth down 2-0 with two outs and a man on first and third. McMahon absolutely smacks one to deep right center. Rockies win 3-2. I went from feeling sad to tripping over a chair hugging a woman behind me that I’ve never met. Such a nice memory.

  1. In person? Saw Eberle get the first hat trick in Seattle Kraken history live a few months ago.

  2. I was at a baseball game, and the home team lost. There was a guy who supported the home team and was extremely drunk. He jumped the fence, and ran onto the field while stripping down to his American flag underwear. It took 6 security guards to stop him.

  3. In person is really tough, because I unfortunately haven’t seen that many amazing moments in person. Probably the 1989 divisional playoff game between the 49ers and Vikings, when Jerry Rice caught a 72 yard touchdown pass to start the rout. Historically, not the most important moment, but the image of him breaking away and the CB grabbing his towel from behind and praying he could stop him was a pretty famous Jerry Rice moment for awhile. I also went with my Dad and I was 10 years old, so it was just a great day.

  4. I wish I could find a video. Probably 96 or 97, Coors Field, Rockies down by two with two on, bottom of the order, bottom of the ninth. John Vander Wal, a journeyman utility player, steps up to pinch hit. My dad is explaining that one solid single could tie the game. All of the sudden the wind, which had been blowing in from the outfield all night, shifts. Vander Wal hits an absolute bomb to center right, second deck. Years later I heard the Rockies radio announcers say it was one of their favorite moments to call.

I also saw a no-no once. That was pretty cool. I’ve been to easily hundreds of baseball games in my life, seeing that will definitely stick with me.

  5. I saw Bernie Williams hit a walk-off home run against the Red Sox, at Fenway. It was hilarious.

  6. I’m not into sports but my favorite in person memory was going to the NY Knicks game as a class field trip back in elementary school. We had terrible seats in the nosebleeds and could barely see the players. But it was so much fun being in such a large stadium, eating hot dogs and burgers, being around friends outside of school. It’s was a wonderful time.

  7. Philly-centric, but alas:

[Claude Giroux OT winner in Game 3 of the SCF](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWWa5u48Yl0). That game as a whole was just a 3 hour long heart attack.

I sold my ticket to Roy Halladay’s playoff no-hitter, but I don’t like talking about that much…

  8. Diamondbacks v. Yankees ’01 World Series. Still the greatest Arizona sports moment to this day. I don’t even *like* baseball and that shit brings me to tears

  9. In professional sports in person and not on TV it’s going to be Jeff Gordon coming back from 3 laps down to finish 3rd at Bristol Spring 2015, I was also there in 2005 when Gordon shoved Kennesth post race. I also witnessed baseball history, Pittsburgh beating the Reds 1 – 0 in I want to say 2011 to make the playoffs for the first time in quite some time. First pitch of the game was a home run and only score of the game. Has only happened a handful of times in the history of baseball. Also got to walk Busch Stadium during pregame/warm-ups back in 2014. That was an experience. Baseball is great to watch in person and highly recommend. Out of those though my favorite is watching the Braves beat the Nationals in D.C. with virtually no national fans in the stadium.

  10. Watching Don Zimmer charge the mound then get thrown to the ground by Pedro Martinez during a heated Sox-Yankees playoff game.

As soon as it happened my dad jumped up and ran off. Came back with the last two beers they would sell in Fenway Park that night.

  11. When Chocowinity beat Bath at home (Bath) for the first time in decades, 42-20

  12. My grandfather took my brother and I to see Gordie Howe play his final professional hockey game with the Detroit Vipers in 1997 at like 70 years old. He played a single shift and basically just skated around a bit before heading back to the bench.

What was memorable was the fact that Howe had been my grandfather’s hero for nearly 50 years at that point. I don’t remember ever seeing him as excited as when he saw Howe skate onto the ice without his helmet. My grandpa was like a little kid all over again.

A few months prior, he and my grandma also took us to the Palace to watch the Vipers win the Turner Cup, which was pretty cool too.

I miss the Vipers, man. So much fun.

  13. My friend had an extra ticket to a random Wednesday night Giants game and saw Matt Cain pitch a perfect game

  14. Notre Dame beating Michigan 38-0 to end the series or Notre Dame beating defending MNC’s Michigan 36-20 with Brady getting sacked four times.

    Good times, good times.

  15. It would have been Butler-Duke if Hayward’s shot fell. Duke winning made it nothing special though.

Guess it has to be bath matches of USA vs Canada in curling in 2018. Was there for the round robin match that USA needed to even stay alive for knockouts and again for the semifinal. Would have loved to make it in the door for the Gold final, but the going scalp price was way too rich for my blood.

  16. UNC at UVA, Scott Stadium, November 1987. UVA came from behind in the last quarter, damn near the last five minutes, to win 20-17.

  17. Live? At the time… The 1998 “Home Run Chase”.

I wrangled up the GF and her kids to see Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa come through on road trips ’cause that’s one of those “historic” things you want to be able to tell people you saw live in 50 years. Actually saw both of them hit a HR.

Found out later it was all a lie. Bwomp bwow.

Between that and Ritchie Fucking Garcia stealing Game 1 from the Padres… the whole ’98 season can go die in a fucking fire.

  18. Greg Gagne, my favorite player, hitting a homerun in the 1991 World Series. I was 8.

  19. Watched the Guardians (then the Indians) score 11 runs in the first inning against the Royals. They finally got some outs on their third pitcher.

  20. I think it was after 2010: the Vikings threw a hail Mary to the end zone and they got a touchdown.

  21. Bo Jackson in Right Field for the White Sox throwing flat footed to get an out at third base. No cutoff man. I’m a big White Sox fan and saw them win the World Series in person in later years, but man that Bo Jackson throw was amazing.

  22. Nicky Hayden’s first MotoGP win at Laguna Seca in 2005. My first ever MotoGP race and the local kid takes his first win. Magical. RIP Kentucky Kid.

  23. I watched the Miracle on Ice in 1980 when the amateur USA hockey team beat the Russian team for gold. It was thrilling.
