How do you measure emotional maturity?

  1. The ability and tendency to empathize with other people. Worrying about someone’s well-being when you see them fall instead of laughing and filming the person with your phone instead of offering comfort and asking if they need an ambulance.

A more subtle form of emotional immaturity is the inability to offer someone understanding when they are in emotional pain. Without offering destructive support (you’re right. That person is a _____) or INVALIDATING (stop being weak. Everybody has that happen. Deal. Grow up.)

Very emotionally mature people never invalidate. Under any circumstance. We understand it is counter to any service we wish to be. All service begins with empathy and understanding, even if the person is being a baby. There are reasons. And these reasons are real. And life is simply not easy.
