Have the conversation in person.
If you notice that you slip up offer them an out? Like “so anyway, [either change topic or ask an easy to answer question that is relevant to what you previously said]” this is like offering them the chance to ignore your difficult message without cutting communication, or gives them a starting point to reply with
Practice brevity, if you can take out unnecessary words and shorten the length (if that’s your problem) it will be easier for them to stay engaged n not feel overwhelmed by the text
Also agree if it’s a difficult subject that you need to talk about, in person is probably better. It might help to check if they are in the space to talk about difficult things before you unload them, eg “are you busy rn? I’d like to talk to you about x”
