What’s the problem with jorts?

  1. The problem is that they are just too cool. There, I said it. Most people can’t handle how awesome they are. People talk trash on the cargo shorts, but that is because the only thing cooler, is a nice pair of jorts. Don’t even get me started on pairing them up with some white new balances.

  2. The thing about “jorts” is that everyone says they’re not fashionable, but then I see fashionable people wear them.

Like with all articles of clothing, it depends on the style though.

  3. Nothing. They go great with a pair of white New Balances and a tucked in t-shirt.

  4. I didnt think there was a problem? I wear them frequently in the summer and no one has said anything. Then again I’m not really a fashionista or pay attention to women’s fashion trends.

  5. Nothing, other than the name makes me snicker, but if you want to wear jorts, why not?

  6. Jeans and shorts are already casual options independently. Mixing them together puts it into a weird sort of tuxedo tshirt zone of cheese.

  7. There isn’t a problem per se; they just aren’t part of the (fairly arbitrary) types of clothing that are in style right now.

Personally I wouldn’t wear them because they’re too hot. I’m not a big a shorts guy, so if I’m wearing them at all they’d better be comfortable.

  8. The word “jorts” came into usage after cutoffs stopped being homemade and fashionable.

In my youth, they were cutoffs, literally made by cutting off the legs of jeans. Often they were jeans whose knees had holes from wear. The resulting hem was unfinished. The length was typically somewhere between a couple of inches above the knee to a couple of inches below the crotch. They were macho precisely because they symbolized outdoor labor wearing through the jeans.

But then stores started carrying them pre-made, usually with finished hems. That’s when they became unfashionable and that’s when they started being called jorts.

I have seen shorts becoming shorter in recent year, though still rarely above mid-thigh. But I haven’t seen cutoffs becoming popular again, nor finished jean shorts being considered fashionable. One might wear jeans or chino shorts to a mid-tier restaurant with a nice shirt but jean shorts are still less common for smart casual.

  9. I figure it’s like living in Florida. There’s nothing inherently wrong with it, but you see so many guys being captured and arrested embarrassingly while in them that there’s a stigma that just perpetuates.

  10. I was worried that something was wrong with Jorts like more than someone buttering him again.

    Whew. You’re talking about clothes.

    Nothing. Wear what you want.

  11. If they’re good enough for Steve Austin and John Cena, they’re good enough for anyone.

  12. Is there one? I just cut all my jeans off cause it’s summer. You now have me questioning my life choices.
