To me, nobody is born socially awkward unless there’s a form of social disorder like autism and Asperger’s.

If you don’t have an illness, being awkward stems from either trauma or isolation as a child/teenager. It stems from issues that need to be worked out on. If this problem isn’t resolved, your life can be ruined.

There are heartless people out there that will bully and take advantage of socially awkward people. People can even still hate you for this even though it’s been years.

  1. Socially awkward person here. I’m in 30s and because of home school and the fact that whatever social opportunities I did have my mom pulled me out of, I’m pretty much a tainted and hopeless human being.

  2. At the end of the day, your social skills improve by a) consistently putting yourself out there in social situations and talking to people and b) building a life with hobbies and goals while making the time to do a).

  3. uh i mean yesn’t ,you still have the power to change your own behaviour and mindset. I’m awkward but thanks to adhd and trauma that involved narcissists.
Ah its taking a huge effort to move on from victim mode, unless you sort that out , no one can help you.

  4. I agree with OP. If you had a rough childhood, your odds at a successful life are stacked against you. Im no psychologist but people are naturally so extremely resistant to change on a subconscious level however you can work towards change by gaining knowledge. Read books about trauma and how to heal from it. Learn about your own mind. Meditate every day. Most importantly, see a therapist regularly if your financial situation allows it and get out and do the things that make you uncomfortable or things that you find difficult to do!!!

  5. I see religion as a floor not a roof.
Use it to move throughout the world and not to stay separate from it.
I think the problem lies that some religious parents try to keep their kids in a bubble.

The rebellion starts because living in a bubble is an unnatural environment. They are fighting to get out. (The bubble not religion )
