The story doesn’t have to take place fully in the state, but it should be significant. Not just a few scenes.

Folks from California and NY will have a lot of different answers as tons of TV shows and movies are set there.

Also,do mention the state as well.

  1. Hoosiers. Sinfully underrated performance by Gene Hackman, one of Jerry Goldsmith’s great scores, and writing that understands small town Indiana in a way that Stranger Things, Breaking Away, and Parks & Rec doesn’t

  2. California here, and hoo boy are there a ton of things I could say. The first thing that came to mind, however, was Almost Famous which a portion of takes place in San Diego. I spent a lot of time in my youth following bands around california and the surrounding states, and I saw a lot of myself in William at the time, despite our adventures being separated by 30 years. Still a movie I watch and get weepy and nostalgic about well into adulthood.

  3. California here. I loved Full House. It was wholesome and it really made me laugh as a kid.

  4. Honestly, if living in MA was as fun as *Cheers* made it out to be, that’d be cool.

  5. The VVitch

Edit: the lighthouse is a close runner up

Edit 2: shutter island too. Actually, I can’t decide.

  6. Parks and rec was pretty accurate to the Michiana area I was living in for a long time.

  7. Stranger Things – Set in Indiana, though most of it was filmed in Atlanta I believe

  8. The Walking Dead. It started in Georgia but the show moved to Virginia, Hilltop, Alexandrea and Neagan are all in Virginia.

  9. Kansas: Anything with Superman visiting Smallville. I never got into Supernatural and the Wizard of Oz gets old after you hear “You’re not in Kansas anymore, hehehe” for the 20th time.

Seeing Blackkkslansman come out when living in Colorado Springs was pretty cool too. I wish they had shot more in town, but the references to parts of town were pretty good, and the B roll up in the mountains (looked like North Cheyenne Cañon Park to me) was perfect.

  10. Fraser. Even though the view from his apartment would only exist in puget sound.

  11. For Texas King of the Hill is always a good choice. Very accurate depiction of growing up in 1990s-2000s Texas suburbia complete with the transition from mostly white Texans to immigrants and northern/west coast transplants.
