Why is Father’s Day in June and not during Football season?

  1. Because Hallmark was seeing slumping sales numbers in Q2 and decided to put a few holidays in there

  2. Because….one has nothing to do with the other?

Wikipedia says June because the founder of the day’s father’s birthday was June 5th.

  3. If it were during football season, fathers would have to stay at the table with family and open cards or go out to a fancy restaurant with family, spend time with their toddlers, etc. when they’d rather be with their buddies watching the game and drinking beer.

  4. They’ve been enjoying a great US Open all weekend instead, 4 days of sports is better than 1. Plus since golf is on they can get in an outstanding nap on the couch.

  5. Because then father’s would have an obligation during football season.

You know what the only thing I want to do today is? Hang out with my wife and kid.

You know what I *am* doing today?

My mom and my in laws are coming over to clutter up my house with a bunch of shit they will certainly bring, I get to cook a bunch of food that I paid for, then we get to clean it all up when they leave.

I’ve only had two father’s days so far, and both times they were a pain in the ass.

Now…for a father that is a football fan, if he had to miss a game to do some shit he didn’t want to do, well…that’s not appealing.

(All this is true for mother’s day too. My wife isn’t a fan)

  6. according to wiki Fathers day started in 1910 and the NFL in 1920

    > In the United States, Father’s Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd,[1][2][3] and celebrated on the third **Sunday of June for the first time in 1910.**

    > **The NFL was formed in 1920** as the American Professional Football Association (APFA) before renaming itself the National Football League for the 1922 season.

    Some dads like hockey.

    Some dads like basketball.

    Some dads like soccer.
