If there are not too many neighbouring countries for you, you can add the neighbouring countries of your neighbouring countries, or just the countries that are the nearest!

Edit: Right, forgot about Saint Martin / Sint Marteen : others have named Max Verstappen, so I’ll say Paul Verhoeven.

  8. We don’t have too many neighbouring countries. If you count France (we share a border in the Caribbean, we have just 3.

From Germany we have Angela Merkel. I don’t think I need to elaborate further.

    Yes,I like football 😉

Are there any famous footballers from San Marino?

  10. I’m interested in politics, so I could name current and former heads of government and state of all our neighbours.

For most countries (apart from Luxembourg) probably also 2 or 3 others but actually not that many, now that I think about it.

  11. – France: Macron/ ZAZ/ Zidane/ Griezmann

    – Portugal: CR7/ Salvador Sobral

    Belgium: Kevin de Bruyne

    Netherlands: Virgil van Dijk

  25. Well, I did grow up in the only neighboring country that my country of origin has, so this is cheating.

But off the top of my head I am thinking about people such as Ibai, El Rubius, Belén Esteban, Aitana, Morad, Alberto Chicote, Jordi Cruz (bueno), Jordi Cruz (malo), etc.

I did grow up near the border with Andorra (and we went there shopping and refueling at least twice a month at one point) but I genuinely cannot recall a single Andorran celebrity, vast majority of famous people living in Andorra are Spanish YouTubers avoiding taxes.

When it comes to France, it’s mostly musicians/actors and the odd sports person. Gérard Depardieu, Carla Bruni, Clara Luciani, Indila, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon…

Not sure whether a mainland UK celebrity would count for Gibraltar, but I really don’t know anyone from Gibraltar. As for Morocco, I only know Pokimane.

  26. – Poland – Ewa Farna is technically Polish
    – Slovakia – Meky Žbirka
    – Austria – Christoph Waltz
    – Germany – Leon Draisaitl

(I’m trying to stay away from politicians)

    – Andorra : Well… hum…

    – Brazil : Lula

    – Suriname : Hem… I mean… yeah, no…

  28. I will try to name form every country and will use as little footabllers as posible

  30. I’m going to exclude politicians, royalty and athletes to make it challenging.

    **Norway:** Jo Nesbø (author)

**Russia:** Garry Kasparov (chess players are not athletes, mmkay)

    **Sweden:** Leif GW Persson (criminologist)

  31. Trying not to name politicians or footballers, somehow that feels like cheating.

Belgium: Gert Verhulst, Stromae, Urbanus are the first that come to mind.

Germany: somehow this is way harder than expected! I actually watch Tatort but I don’t know any of the actors’ names. When I lived in Germany, I also watched Die Heute Show but I forgot the presentors name. Dieter Bohlen counts, but I should be able to think of someone more currently relevant, shouldn’t I? I also know the duo Joko und Klaas but not their last names.

  32. I wonder what this means now for us now? Technically we’ve only ever shared a landborder with Germany, but recently the Danish Realm (our monarchy) grew and we now share a landborder somewhat unusually with Canada. After settling the long lasting dispute over Hans Island. Does that mean I should also mention Canada now? Technically I also consider Sweden and Norway neighbours, even though we don’t share a border obviously. And what about Jutland? It’s not Sjælland you know..

    Germany: Angela Merkel, Oluf Schultz
    Norway: Erling Haaland
    Sweden: King Gustaf 16.
    Canada: Justin Trudeau

  33. Neigbors:

I immediately think of their politicians but I’ll try to name some other famous people for variety as well.

**Norway:** *Jens Stoltenberg* (NATO general secretary, former PM), *Jonas Gahr Störe* (current PM), *Angelina Jordan* (young singer that won Norway’s Idol, now lives in LA), *Kurt Nilsen* (also won Norway’s Idol once), *Harald* (their king), *Fredrik Skavlan* (hosted a Norwegian-Swedish talkshow), *Magnus Carlsen* (#1 chess player in world).

**Denmark**: *Mette Frederiksen* (PM), *Mads Mikkelsen* (actor).

**Finland**: *Sanna Marin* (PM), *Sauli Niinistö* (president), *Linus Torvalds* (made Linux).

    Now expanding to neighbors neighbors:

**Russia**: *Vladimir Putin* (dictator), *Sergey Karjakin* (pro-Putin chess player), *Ian Nepomnishi* (last name is not spelled like that but is roughly pronounced like that, chess player), *Gary Kasparov* (former world chess champion, anti-Putin), *Ludmila Engquist* (Russia-born olympic athelete that later became a Swedish citizen and competed for Sweden but got caught multiple times with doping), *Peter Svidler* (chess commentator & player, anti-the-war)

**Germany**: Olof Scholz (PM), Angela Merkel (former PM)

**Canada** (recent neighbor of Denmark): Justin Trudeau (PM).

  34. Yeah, easily. Let’s just do footballers (could do alpine skiers as well):

    Czechia: Pavel Nedved

    Slovakia: Vladimir Weiss

    Hungary: Dominik Szoboszlai

    Slovenia: Kevin Kampl

    Italy: Francesco Totti

    Switzerland: Murat Yakin

**Andorra** *does someone actually live there oops*

    **Netherlands** Eefje de Visser (singer)

    **Brazil** Anitta (singer)

    **Suriname** Jeangu Macrooy (singer)

  36. Norway – Petter Northug (former cross country skier)

Denmark – Kevin Magnussen (F1 driver)

Finland – Ivo Niskanen (cross country skier)

And since that isnt that many i’ll throw in fellow Nordic country Iceland – Hafthor Björnsson (strongman competitor and actor)

  37. Czech Republic: Pavel Kříž (actor)

    Austria: Sebastian Kurz (politician)

    Hungary: Viktor Orbán (politician)

    Ukraine: Jamala (singer)

    Poland: Agnieszka Holland (movie director)

I know at least one politician of every of those countries and singers (thanks to the Eurovision Song Contest), also many Czech famous people, because lot of them are part of our culture too.

  38. That’s a funny game, can I play ?
I’m from France, here are my answers :
**Switzerland** : Amaury Guichon (half-french), Stephan Eicher

    **Belgium** : Amélie Nothomb

    **Luxembourg** : no idea…

To make up for Andorre and Luxembourg
**Netherlands** : Anneke van Giersbergen (my favourite female singer), Floor Jansen
    **Norway** : Aurora
    **Ireland** : Cillian Murphy
