Is there an ice cream flavor specific to your area/the US in general that you have a hard time finding elswhere?

  1. Maine Blueberry

I’ve seen it at some ice cream shops in Mass and VT, but it’s harder to find outside of Maine and nearly impossible outside of New England.

  2. Blue Moon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_moon_(ice_cream)

    Superman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_(ice_cream_flavor)

Most ice cream stores in Michigan will have these. Wikipedia says you can also find them in Wisconsin.

It is kind of hard to describe the flavor for either since Blue Moon isn’t really flavored after anything and Superman is a vague blend of flavors. Of course, if you go to a grocery store or something and buy Meijer-brand Superman, it’s always going to be called “Scooperman” or “Super Scoop” or something like that for copyright reasons.

  3. Superman flavor. It’s a mix of Blue Moon (another Michigan staple — it’s got a fruit medley flavor – think fruit loops.), Cherry or strawberry (pink), and Vanilla or sometimes lemon (white/yellow). It’s amazing on a hot summer day.

  4. Not one in particular, but when I moved to the southwest from Massachusetts, I was shocked to find that ice cream parlors routinely had only a dozen flavors.

I’m more used to a list of twice that as a bare minimum. For example, https://crescentridge.com/ouricecream. This one isn’t even particularly long, it’s just particularly good. My favorite place when I was a kid advertised 50 flavors, and apparently is now up to 75.

So a lot of the flavors that you commonly find in ice cream shops are hard to find even in local grocery stores, like ginger, grape nut, rum-raisin, bubble gum, or flavors with any of a dozen different candies. Personally, I recommend ginger.

  5. I moved to the northeast from Texas and I really miss Blue Bell’s Pralines and Cream ice cream. I can find similar up here, but not that specific sugary goodness.

  6. Gilroy, California hails itself as the “Garlic Capital of the World”. They offer garlic ice cream at their festival.

  7. With the number of Filipinos/Filipino-Americans here in Southern California, I figure Ube (purple yam) is a bit harder to find anywhere else (other than perhaps Hawaii, or NYC and other metropolises with lots of Filipino immigrants), but now that Trader Joe’s has “discovered” it, maybe it’s gotten more widespread. And of course if we’re thinking globally, there ought to be oodles in the Philippines.

  8. When I lived in Connecticut I could get Grape-Nut ice cream pretty readily. I can’t find it in upstate NY. It’s a Nova Scotia specialty that’s popular in New England and, somehow, Jamaica.

  9. When I lived in Ohio you could get Baklava ice cream from Pav’s Creamery. But they don’t have that here in Texas.

  10. I’m not sure if Tillamook ice cream is widely available in the rest of the U.S., but I love the Oregon Strawberry flavor (sounds like a flavor that could be hard to find outside the PNW, but not sure). I’m saying this as a highly lactose intolerant person. Some things are just worth farting for.

  11. There’s a coffee company in Florida called Barnie’s that has a flavor called Santa’s White Christmas and they partnered with Publix grocery stores to make a seasonal ice cream with it. It’s coffee-flavored with hints of coconut, vanilla, and caramel, and it’s got espresso-flavored chocolate chips mixed in. It’s exclusive to Publix stores, which are only in the southeast, and it’s only made during winter. It’s my second favorite ice cream and I can’t get it anymore because I moved far away 🙁

  12. Spumoni is difficult to find outside of NY. It’s similar to Neapolitan but cherry (with cherries in it!), pistachio., and chocolate. Sooo delicious

  13. Prickly pear ice cream! We have prickly pear festivals with ice cream and margaritas and stuff.

  14. Phillies Graham Slam- it’s gram-cracker flavored, with Grahm cracker crumbles, chocolate and marshmallow. It’s so freaking good but I’ve only ever seen it in the philadelphia/upper delaware region.

  15. There’s an ice cream shop up the street from me that does an Old Bay caramel flavor. That’s Baltimore as hell. And I love Old Bay, but don’t want it in my dessert.

Hands-down the best ice cream in the city is Taharka Brothers. Their coffee Oreo flavor is divine, as is their key lime pie.
