What is the nicest/priciest alcohol you have purchased, and was it worth it?

1. We were gifted a bottle of Grey Goose VX (around £100 at the time). Hints of cognac if I rememeber the bottle correctly. Tasted much the same as the regular stuff to me.

2. Nice whisky – so worth it. Single malt.

3. I went to the liquor store already drunk and talked my wife into talking me into buying a bottle of Lagavulin Distillers Edition Double Matured. It cost $122.

   As far as worth, that’s a funny thing. I know that in the end, I’ll be left with an empty bottle, and maybe if I’m lucky, I’ll have a few good memories attached as well. That’s not a lot for the money, considering I could have got both for free. Compared to other $120 hard goods and experiences, maybe I shouldn’t have. But on the other hand, to quote Archie Hicox, “damn good stuff, sir.”

   Worth every penny.

5. Just before I met my wife I bought a bottle of Dom Perignon because my girlfriend was sleeping over and we had strawberries and champagne as part of the dinner that I cooked for her. It cost about $100, which was big money for me as a student.

   Definitely not worth it. My wife was so jealous when we started she found out I’d done that. I think it took her years to believe that I loved her as much as the previous girlfriend. She doesn’t even like champagne. We’ve been living together 38 years and married 31. She’s over it now.

6. I’m an Irish Whiskey drinker (when I drink)- I’m happy with Jameson and Ginger Beer. Recently I got turned on to Teeling, which is becoming my new go-to to keep in the house.

   They’re top-shelf option is Blackpitts, a rare peated Irish Whiskey. It has a sweet start with a smokey finish. It runs around $70-80 a bottle. Yes, I would buy it again. But a bottle of that will last me forever, since I don’t drink frequently and when I do, I also don’t drink it neat often. A bottle will go a long way with me. Something to break out when I have the right guest over.

   Edit: I have actually purchased more expensive booze before, but that was always as a gift for someone else.

7. Never worth it, but my hobbies don’t revolve around alcohol.

   I’d rather have that cash back in my pocket and work less.
