I’m a single dad in debt from medical bills and my relationship in which I was the breadwinner failing and the expenses that entailed.

Keeping track of all the payments is insane. Not to mention my regular bills. I applied for loans to get things paid off and consolidate and got denied at every turn. I get it, my credit isn’t good. I just don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I work as a server right now, my yearly gross for last year was only about 32k.

I need to get medical and dental treatments but can’t afford them and can’t get financing for them because of poor credit. The dental problems in particular make it extremely difficult for me to get a better job that could elevate my financial position. I feel like the situation I’ve put myself in is insurmountable, in the way that I can survive, but I’ll be in this same situation 20 years down the road. How does this cycle end? How do I get ahead? Where do I start?

I’ll gladly provide more insight to anyone willing to give advice or discuss it.

  1. Where is the mother, and if you’re the single parent get some child support.

  2. My youngest daughter went from being a server to running her own bakery. She went to college after working for 6 years, got her hospitality degree, then took a job at a bakery. She then became the manager.

Education is key–and frankly working in a restaurant is never ever going to pay the bills the way you want them to. Your only hope if you feel you are stuck in that role, is to start applying at the biggest, fanciest restaurants in town and try to ladder up that way.

Sooner or later you are going to have to face the fact that your career choice is not cutting it, though.
