I’m constantly receiving trading adverts, whether that be trading apps or trading “success” guides by guys with white teeth, wearing a gold Rolex & flaunting a Lamborghini. I don’t search for anything stocks / trading related yet the frequency of these has ramped up over the years, even if I’m signed out of google / using incognito tabs.

Has anyone else noticed an uptick in such videos?

  1. Most Internet advertising is based upon cookies so maybe you inadvertently clicked something that makes it look like you are a mug.

  2. I get ads for credit and financing despite never once considering or searching either. I think it’s a lowest common denominator ad criteria that they (fb / google) assume will apply to someone, somewhere, if they have nothing better to go on.

  3. You’re probably just in their target demographic, you don’t need to click on related stuff to get those recommendations.

  4. On Facebook you can look at what the advertising criteria led to the ad being shown to you. I get loads of crypto and investment bullshit ads because I’m a male aged 18-40. Presumably, that demographic is full of idiots wanting to get rick quick.

  5. Yes. “Fintech” companies are promoting trading apps and websites heavily. They’re getting rich off it. Two thirds to three quarters of their users lose money, and some of those lose more than they invested.

  6. There are a lot of fintech and crypto ads on the tube right now, they’re just the ads of the moment.
