we met for the second time and he walked me home with his arm around me, and later that day he texted me and said he didn’t give a fuck who saw him with his arm around me. should i interpret this as an insult, like he should be embarassed to be seen with me but he doesn’t care? why would he say this?
i can’t think of any way this statement would be well-intentioned at all. it’s not like i’m unattractive, i’m fit and if anything my friends told me i’m out of his league but i really love his personality.

You need to be asking him these questions rather than Reddit.
Did he say that totally unprompted, or was there a lead-in?
And I think you as him: “Why would I think you would care who sees you with me?”
The most likely intent was to express “I really like you and want the whole world to know it”, but phrased awkwardly.
Don’t sweat it. He tried to say something romantic and kinda blew it.

It may not be about you at all, though. Maybe he’s thinking of an ex he’s not quite over (ie: I don’t care if she sees us together)

I’m trying really hard to figure out how this could be a red flag. As someone with anxiety and overthinks almost everything, especially when it comes to things my partner says, I definitely think he meant it as he’s proud to walk with his arm around you. Personally I think you’re overthinking this, if you want a straight answer you’d have to ask him. Maybe you can bring it up as “Hey, something has been on my mind recently and would like some clarification on what you meant by ______” or something along that line
