The Sweet and Slade are best known for their “glam rock” hits, but both bands had some great albums/songs that never get radio air time.
Check out Slade’s 80s rock hit [Lock up your daughters](https://youtu.be/QCUSm-27Mac)
Or The Sweet’s [No you don’t](https://youtu.be/Ndnidos5HRU)
Wait 90’s is considered classic now? xD
Entrails Ripped From a Virgins Cunt by Cannibal corpse is 90’s as are Mutilate The Stillborn and Fermented Offal Discharge by Necrophagist.
Ok, jokes aside I’d actually recommend:
Bobby Fuller Four version of I Fought The Law
The Bards Song by Blind Guardian is 90’s but has a much more old feel/vibe to it. Much more like something you’d expect to hear… well… a bard playing in an old tavern, might be a bit too old sounding for you in that regard.
I really love The Hurricane by Bob Dylan and I dont see many people mention it when talking about him, might have to do some censoring depending on you radio station regulations though. I don’t think you’ll find a song with deeper meaning behind it in this thread (if thats what you meant by deep).
There’s a lot of good Bruce Springsteen songs out there that get overlooked in favour of the obligatory Born To Run, Born In The Usa, The River, and Thunder Road. I’d recommend Cover Me or Glory Days.
Sally MacLennane by the Pogues is probably the only radio friendly song by them I know of and also has some of the most delightful tin whistle I’ve ever heard in it.

There was this german book series “Orkanfahrt”, about ship captains who were interviews and told their craziest story…
In the audiobook version, there was a melancholic song at the end. Sung by a female voice singing about her waiting for her sailor coming back.

Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot
Rush probably has a lot of good candidates. Personally, I love Bravado from Roll the Bones.
Also, I’m aware that we Hoosiers get an outsized amount of airplay of Mellencamp’s catalog. So while his stuff isn’t obscure to me, it would be to someone outside Indiana. And there’s a lot of good stuff from Scarecrow, Lonesome Jubilee, Big Daddy, Whenever We Wanted, Human Wheels, etc.
Welcome To The Void by Morgen.
A pretty unknown but decent song from the 60s
Cocain blues , johnny cash

I’d go for:
[Tesla – Modern Day Cowboy](https://youtu.be/avAvkdYa3qM) From their 1986 album.
Good 80’s hard rock from a band that have had a pretty good run, have written some damn good songs, but not a name you hear as often as ones like maybe Def Leppard or Aerosmith
Try a superb mix of songs by Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers.
An hour+ tape of 1940s, 1950s, 1960s music mixed into a great soundtrack.
