(27F)Was at a goodbye party for one of my friends, she is mutuals with my ex bf (28M) so he was there. As he was leaving he went to pat my head/play with my hair, he stopped himself and I asked if he really was about to do that. He said yes, laughed, & then did it anyway??? I know he’s in a serious relationship and we broke up over 2 years ago but we still share many of the same friends. My friends think it’s weird and he could have been flirting. Any thoughts would be welcome.
TLDR: ex played with my hair as he was leaving a party, does this mean anything?

Sounds like you are trying to make something of this because you want to get back together.
It doesn’t seem to be an indication of anything imo. If you guys broke up on decent terms and are friendly, it could just be something he did without thinking about it? It seems like maybe you want there to be an underlying meaning to this? Or maybe it just sort of gives you some nostalgia/brings back memories?
Ask him about it. Straight up. Just tell him you don’t want any weirdness and that you’re asking to avoid any confusion in the future. The worst he could say is that it meant nothing, right? You won’t know for sure unless you talk to him about it.
