**GOALS:**

* *Squat* \- 315 lbs
* *Bench-press* \- 225
* *Deadlift* \- 405

I started my lifting journey 6 months ago while on a cut. Lost 20lbs while lifting and have made some decent gains. Currently stand at about:

* *Squat* \- 250 lbs
* *Bench-press* \- 170 lbs
* *Deadlift* \- 275 lbs (started this just recently so not something I worked on too much…)

For those of you who hit those GOAL marks, how long did it take you personally? And what can I do best to reach them by the end of 2022?

I’m a pretty average dude genetically. About 5’7, 160lbs with broad shoulders

  1. Been lifting for about 5 years, haven’t reached those benchmarks yet. Probably never will.

  2. I did lifting in hs for football so I never started from a complete stand still but I was about 180 when i started to lift serious

    Squat took 4 months

    Bench took 3 months

    Deadlift took 6 months bc i hate deadlifting

    The biggest thing is to do all these exercises 2x a week no more no less as you need time to rest since these are big compound movements. Lastly is to just take your time, theres gonna be times your body is cant get the weight up and thats ok. One bad set is better than an ACL tear or dislocated joint

  3. I hit the squat and bench numbers with in 3 years, or by age 17. However, I am 6’1 and at the time I weighed 220. I never pursued deadlift aggressively enough to go for 405. I’m much happier doing a lighter weight for high reps with impeccable form.

    Trying to meet these mark by the end of year is foolish. Your strength gains are not going to be linear or as fast they have been up to this point. All of these are massive numbers given your weight. Take your time, otherwise you are going to blow up your joints.

  4. Over the years, I’ve suffered rotator cuff damage in both shoulders and a torn labrum in my right shoulder.

    As result, I no longer concern myself with PRs or 1RM. I am not trying to be a power lifter, just trying to maintain & stay healthy.

    My numbers are fairly modest and am ok with it.

    If you are only 6mos into things I’d encourage you to take the slow boat to China and not burden yourself with end of year deadline that’s only 6 months away. You aren’t terribly far from those goals so just keep grinding and value safety 1st, nutrition 2nd…your gains will come, but avoid staring at a clock

  5. Progression isn’t linear, and you making strength gains during a cut is “newbie gains.” Once that plateaus and you stop adding weight, it’s time to up your calories over maintenance and hit protein goals. Not sure you can put a timeframe on that. 55 lbs added to your bench in 6 months is 10 lbs added PER month consistently. Without newbie gains, that is a very tough task.

  6. i started lifting when i turned 16, hit all of those around 17-17.5

    if u wanna get stronger, bulk and workout in the 8,6,4 rep range and max out once every 2 weeks. strength will blow up

  7. I’ve consistently went to the gymt two points in my life.I don’t remember my deadlift and squats from the first time.I do know it took about 6 months to get one rep of 225 on bench.Went consistently for a year.With a 5 year break.Since the hobbies and work covers all the physical activity I needed.

    The second time is now.I’m about 175pds for a set of 10 on bench.That was about 6 months of being back in the gym.Realy don’t do deadlines and squat at max weight.Since that’s not what I’m working on.

  8. I could add about 2.5kg every week to deadlift and squats and 1.25kg per week to my bench the second half year I was lifting. That is like 5 and 2.5lbs per week?

    I suggest focusing on following your program and diet instead of weight goals. This will serve you better in the long run. You’ll get the same result but it’s easier to maintain through the ups and downs of life.

  9. Dunno. All the plates in my gym were KG

    After 10 months I was 1 repping 220kg squat, 135kg squat 90 on bench.

    You’re still in noobie gains range so you should hit those numbers by the end of the year.
