Inspired by a post I saw where some guy found some vintage designer watches during a estate sale over in the states.

Are there posh car boot sales here? Or do the wealthy sell their stuff at auctions?

  1. What you need are charity shops in posh areas. However, the prices do tend to be higher.

I once bought a wonderful trunk full of goodies at a village fete auction. I got the trunk, two irons, a directors chair and loads of other stuff for a fiver.

  2. Charity shops in affluent areas. I’ve picked up a few decent bits. Personally I’m a big fan of vintage tweed so I always check charity shops around the lakes when I’m visiting.

  3. Estate sales don’t really exist in the UK. Auctions or specialist dealers would be the destination for valuable items. Charity shops for less valuable stuff such as used clothing.

The chances of finding ‘vintage designer watches’ anywhere cheap are minute, unless someone’s donated the wrong bag to the charity shop, or something like that. Even if that happens, if someone from the charity notices the valuable item, nowadays they’d probably Ebay it for its true value rather than putting it in the shop.

Car boot sales are cheap, but the sellers are generally ordinary folk, so the chances of picking up something rare and precious are low.

  4. No, rich people don’t need to sell their stuff to get money. Why would they spend their time doing a car boot sale for a few pounds? They usually give stuff they don’t want to friends or charity.

  5. I thought I found a nice deisel watch in car boot got it home did the research turns out it was highly faked, and mine was a fake, found out when I pressed on the glass to remove bottom and it shattered with little force.

moral of story, I stick to phones at the car boot now, 99 percent of watches iv come across are fake, apart from one armani watch but was only 65 on ebay.

Poshest car boot iv been too was in middle of nowhere near Cheshire, seemed private, found some amazingly rare old mobile phones (devloper phones etc) also seen a lot of high end clothing but didn’t touch that at the time.

Incase you wanna find it, it was 30 minutes from northwhich middle of nowhere in a massive field, found it on Google.
