Hello, I’m new here on the board. I am from Europe and I would like to know something about you. whether university athletes do sports and keep fit after their studies alongside their regular job. or do you stop training because the competition ends?

  1. I continued rowing and playing ultimate frisbee. I also play some indoor soccer (but I suck at it).

  2. For other sports I can see them play in some kinda league just for fun. Not for football though it’s too physical.

  3. I didn’t do track and field in college (I was a pole vaulter), but I probably could have at most D3 or even some D2 schools.

I’m still involved with the sport, even though I haven’t competed in years. I help coach at my high school, and still jump when I can.

Other than that, I do still run on the track and lift just to stay in shape.

  4. I feel like football players dont. Any of the players I knew scewed up their body too much to still be very active.

Other sports, sure. People that play things like soccer and volleyball, etc usually continue and love those sports.

My husband plays in a volleyball league in town (even though we are a tiny town) that plays at the elementary school gym at night. People range from 35 to 70 in the league. It’s suprisingly high level play.

  5. I’m 48, still play ice hockey and roller hockey once a week, both of those leagues have people from their 20s to 50s in them. The facility I play roller at also has adult basketball and soccer leagues. Adult softball and baseball leagues are very common too. I know a few people that play racquetball and tennis often as well, though those aren’t in leagues.

  6. For younger adults (22-35ish) there are often recreational leagues that play things like soccer, basketball, softball, lacrosse, and other sports.

For older adults older than that, other than their time often being taken up heavily by work and kids, they’ll usually be playing more relaxed, non contact sports like golf, tennis, or endurance sports like cycling, running, or even hiking.

  7. Not a college athlete personally, but I rock climb, and I know a whole bunch of other climbers who started post-college sports because it’s pretty easy to get into, and a great way to stay fit! Anecdotally, I know lots of soccer players and swimmers turned climbers, but I’m sure it’s the case for other sports too.
