It was not directly with my family, but we were sort of related. This person had a brother which was gay, it was pretty obvious in their family, but nobody wanted to admit it.

When this brother grew up, he got a boyfriend, they were even living together. His family did not approve it, so they married him with a woman they choose, and stated him that he would not receive anything from the inheritance from their mom.

At the end, he had to accept his family desires. Today he stills married with this lady, they had a son.

  1. That my uncle was taken advantage of.

He married this woman who kept saying she wanted a kid. As soon as she had their son, she moved away with the son and ghosted him. This was in the early 2000’s when I was a teen, so it was much harder to track people then.

We have a rough idea where the son is now, but my uncle is too heartbroken to reach out first. He has said if his son wants to reach out he will welcome him with open arms, but my uncle was never the same after this happened.

  2. Not really a family dark secret but a Filipino “secret”. When we wash our asses, we use the ‘tabo’.
My Filipino bros know what I’m talkin about…

  3. My great grandfather was from Thailand. The family story was always that he was a prince and my grandmother and her sister lived in Thailand and had to escape the country leaving their father behind to die in a coup.

My granny wasn’t interested in learning if the story was true or not, and when I started digging into it, let me know in no 7ncertain terms that she didn’t want to know what I found out.

Turns out they were born and grew up in Birmingham. Their mother gave them up to an orphanage after their father got on a boat back to the Orient.

There was a coup, but my great grandfather wasn’t a prince, instead the best I can find out is that he was the son of a famous Thai educator and the coup was bloodless.

Granny and my mom are dead now so there’s nobody left who’d care anyway. My sister did a DNA test and it turns out she has a lot less thai DNA than either of us suspected so unless I actually learn the language and go there, that’s pretty much as far as I’m going to take it.
