The long hours, travel, tiredness, etc.

  1. My husband is a contractor.

Sometimes it is difficult. He may be out of town for several weeks at a time. However we make it pretty good. He tries to stay within a few hours from home so he can come home on weekends if he gets the chance or we can go see him.

However it is usually spring and fall as the busy season, during summer and winter it is harder to find work so he is home for the most part.

You have to be okay with being alone and handling your own by yourself. They work long hours and usually 6 – 7 days a week.

Also its really hard on the kids. I don’t recommend it if you have children. The out of town jobs are a lot of money in a short time but if you have a family it’s hard. When my husband is on a jobsite out of town we video call at certain times so he can talk to the kids.

Also it just messes up the routine. I get used to him being gone for a while and then he’s home and it takes a lot to get used to again. I struggle to sleep without him and just when I’m getting used to sleeping by myself he’s home and I have to get used to sleeping with someone who snores and kicks again.
