An employer contacted me on indeed and has asked me to fill in an application form. The form asks for both my Passport number, passport expiry and NI number.

I would understand if I had got the job already but i feel like it’s quite early to ask for that info?

Also, the company that contacted mebis listed as dissolved on the HMRC filings website so i thought it seemed even more odd.

  1. Leave it blank, if they’re legit it won’t be an issue.

If you can’t proceed without adding it, reach out to them and tell them you’d rather have a job offer and contract first.

  2. Yea that is early, you normally only give that once you have the job.

  3. There’s a lot of scams going on at the moment. I definitely wouldn’t give that info until I’ve got the job.

Make sure you go on the company’s official website (don’t click any links they give you) and get an official number to speak to a real person as scammers will pretend to be from the company etc.

  4. They will need them before a formal job offer. You now have to prove your Right to Work.

  5. Put in fakes ones, ask to change ‘em to real ones if it’s legit and you get the job and you need to provide bank details for payment.

  6. NI number isnt uncommon to ask for, but the passport stuff generally comes after you’ve got the job offer. Id definitely raise an eyebrow.
